Admissions Procedures

Nursery & Reception Admissions

We are delighted that you are considering Elmsleigh Infant & Nursery School for your child’s education. Below, you will find key information about applying for both Nursery and Reception places, as well as details on visiting our school and support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Visiting Our School

We encourage all prospective parents to visit our school before applying. This is a great opportunity to meet our staff, explore our learning environment, and ask any questions you may have.
To register your interest for a school tour click here and a member of staff will be in touch as soon as possible.
We advise all parents to visit a range of settings to ensure you make an informed decision about your child’s education.

Nursery Admissions

  • Children can start the term after they turn 3 years old.
  • We offer afternoon sessions, Monday to Friday (15 hours per week).
  • If your child is eligible for 2-year-old funding, they may start the term before they turn 3.
  • We also offer full-time (30-hour) nursery places for eligible families.

To apply for a nursery place, please complete our nursery application form. Once we receive your form, we will contact you to confirm availability or, if necessary, place your child on our waiting list.

Reception Admissions

Applications for Reception places must be made through Derbyshire County Council, as we are unable to process applications directly at school.
To apply for a Reception place:
Click here to access the Derbyshire County Council online application form.
Alternatively, call the School Admissions Department on 01629 533190 (please note that lines are often busy, and online applications are recommended).
We have 60 Reception places available each academic year. If applications exceed this number, Derbyshire County Council will allocate places according to their admissions guidelines, which can be found in our Admissions Policy or on the Derbyshire County Council School Admissions website. Parents will be informed of the admissions decision on or after 16th April in the year prior to their child starting school.

Support for Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

If your child has Special Educational Needs (SEN), either suspected or diagnosed, we encourage you to speak with our SENDCO, Mrs Mansfield. When you arrange a visit, please mention this so we can schedule a meeting with her during your tour.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 01283 216 883—we’re always happy to help!
